Coyote Study

This is a study of a coyote for a larger painting I plan to do.  This fellow lived at the Beartooth Nature Center in Red Lodge, MT.  They rescue injured and problem animals that would otherwise have been euthanized.  If you're ever near there please visit them and support their good work.

The reds came out a lot hotter in the photo than they are on the painting.

  1. Nice set of wildlife paintings you've got here, Susan! You did a good job of capturing that pensive look I've seen in coyotes, at least those in captivity. The mixed green background is perfect for this portrait.

  2. Thanks Sonya. This has been a frustrating two weeks with many wiped canvases and a couple to paint over. I was beginning to think all was lost, thankfully this one turned the corner before I wiped it.

  3. He's got his ears back like something is bugging him. Well done.
