Snowfall and Trees

I truly love painting snow, falling and blurring the landscape.  When I am painting these en plein air, the snow is really coming down, or sideways.  The snow will cover the palette and water gets mixed with oils and I try to complete the painting.

Sheep and Shadows

This is from last fall on an outing with some of my art friends.  We stayed at this wonderful place call Canyon of the Ancients Guest Lodge.  This is a fabulous place that offers several places to rent and a working farm, complete with very friendly livestock.  A magical place and a wonderful treat!

Winter's Muse

One of my favorite spots to paint snowfall is up at Lizard Head pass.  I can catch snow there for a longer time during the season.

Winter Colors

This year the snow has come and gone many times, leaving patches across the fields.  During a recent snow fall I wanted to capture the fade as well as the patches of snow that describe the lay of the land.

Bobcat Study

There is a game farm visiting our area, Triple D Game Farm, that you pay to photograph their animals.  They will be in the area until the 25th of April if anyone is interested.  I could only afford a little bit but I got some nice reference material.  This is Captain Baily...I think.  A handsome devil and a great poser.  This came up at a time when I was having trouble painting anything, a true mental block that was broken, thankfully, by this photo op.

Model Study

I am taking a workshop this week at the Scottsdale Artists School with Aaron Westerberg.  He is a wonderful artist and teacher whom I highly recommend taking a class with.  Between class all day and open studios in the evenings, gallery walks and dinners with new friends, I haven't been able to post much.  This is from the Monday evening open studio portrait group here at the school.

Mossy Pond

This pond is next to Rudy's Barn and I have been wanting to paint it for some time.  I love the moss on top with reflections in the water peeking through.

Moon just before sunrise

This is the larger painting I did from the study, trying to get more of the light just before the sun breaks over the mountains.  There are still things I want to fix before this one is done.
