Storm Over the Mountains

Here in southwest Colorado, we don't see big fluffy clouds very much.  So when we do it is a time to celebrate, for the visual as well as the rain.

White Wolf

On my recent trip to Yellowstone I stopped by the Wolf and Grizzly Center in West Yellowstone.  It is a great place to see wolves and grizzlies since it is rare to actually see them in the park.  Most of these guys are rescues and they have a very nice set up for them to roam in.  This particular wolf likes to get up on this rise and look at the people in an observation room.  On this day only two of us were in there so he was looking right at me.

Day 5 - Male figure detail

This is from my 5th day in Robert Liberace's class.  I have learned a lot in this class.  The one lesson that stands out the most, for me, was learning to slow down and look carefully.  I had lost that in trying to get information in quickly but then miss subtleties that can really make a painting sing.  This is a fine balance because the danger in slowing down can also go towards being "overworked".  This is one of the common problems in art, knowing when to stop.

I am going to put this one up for auction on the Daily Paintworks site when it is posted tomorrow.

David

It's portrait Wednesday again.  Today's model was David, a wonderful person and colorful character to boot!  I haven't finished it but wanted to post it anyway.
